Privacy

A drain sits outside somebody's house. That makes ordinary carelessness with data into a map of where people live, so we are deliberately careful.

What we keep

• Your email address, so you can sign in.
• A display name, if you choose to set one. A first name is plenty.
• The first half of your postcode only, never the full one.
• The checks you log: condition, action, date, and any photo you add.

What is public

Drain locations, conditions and check history are public, because a shared record is the whole point. Photos are only shown publicly once they have been moderated. Your email address is never shown.

What we never collect

• House numbers against a drain.
• Full postcodes.
• Number plates, faces or names in photographs — please crop them out.
• Any tracking of where you go when you are not logging a check.

Who is responsible for your data

Adopt a Drain is run by Tanya Park, as an individual rather than a company. That makes me the data controller for everything described on this page.

Write to hello@adoptadrain.org.uk about anything here, including asking for a copy of your data or asking for your account to be deleted.

If you are not happy with how I have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Your rights

You can download a copy of your data or delete your account from the Account page at any time. You can also write to us to ask for either. Checks already logged stay on the record for the street, with your name removed.

Postcode lookups use postcodes.io, which is Open Government Licence data. Maps use OpenStreetMap tiles.
